Signs Of Epilepsy in Children

Signs of epilepsy can help parents to understand the child's health. But not all children develop symptoms of epilepsy from the beginning. Also, not all seizures will have unusual muscle movements that can give warnings about epilepsy.

To understand epilepsy and its impact on a child one has to recognize the conditions of the child and its behavioural changes.

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a neurological disorders in which a child's nerve cells in the brain stop functioning properly and cause seizures.

This condition if not treated at the right time, will cause problems in education, and the child will not be able to lead a normal life at the later stage.
It is therefore very much important to know the signs of epilepsy.

Common Symptoms Of Epilepsy

  • Attention disorder, dazed behaviour, unusual laziness or clumsiness.
  • Frequent falling and habit of forgetting.
  • Unusual behavioural changes such as rapid blinking, nodding or shaking.
  • Disturbed sleeping.
  • Sudden falling of fear or anger.
  • Babies doing grabbing movements with both arms.

Treatment for epilepsy

Proper neurological treatment should be done if your child develops signs of epilepsy. This neurological disorder should be treated only by a pediatric neurologist who can diagnose the child in the right way and prescribe medication. Anti-epilepsy medicines are given in the initial stage of the disorder. If the child shows improvement, the doctor continues the same treatment.

In case your child requires surgery for this neurological disorder, it must be done early before the problem increases. A very minute surgery is done to remove a particular small part of the brain that causes seizures. The doctor will tell you the post-surgery care for the child.

If you notice any such signs in your child as mentioned above, make sure you visit a pediatric neurologist immediately. Moreover, one must know that this is a very delicate condition. So be patient and handle your child with care.
