Important Tips to Prevent Brain Stroke

The lack of proper blood circulation to your brain can cause a life-threatening medical condition, such as brain stroke. Brain cells can fail to function if they do not receive a sufficient amount of blood and oxygen from your body. Another factor that leads to a stroke is bleeding into your brain.  More than 80% of strokes are caused by the blockage of your brain cells due to a lack of oxygen and reduced blood flow. The good news is brain stroke symptoms can be prevented by taking certain preventive measures.

Manage Your Blood Pressure

High or unmanageable blood pressure is the number one reason for brain strokes in both men and women. There are quite a few factors that may help you lower blood pressure, but you need to keep a close eye on blood pressure. According to the neurology experts, try to maintain a BP of 140/90. If it gets above it, contact a doctor and take the necessary medicines immediately to bring the blood pressure down.

Lose Weight

Obese and overweight people are at high risk of a brain stroke. You could still prevent the issue by losing at least 10 pounds. Work with a dietician and nutritionist to develop the right weight loss management plan and stick to it for the best results.

Quit Smoking

Smoking thickens your blood and leads to the buildup of excess plaque in your arteries. Smokers are at great risk of strokes. The formation of plaque and blood clots can hamper the blood circulation to your brain. You could make certain lifestyle changes or practice exercises to get rid of your smoking habits. If you manage to quit smoking, know that it will make a big difference in your overall health.
You should also limit and avoid alcohol consumption as alcohol increases the risk of strokes.
